Looking at other companies that make coffee + mushroom concoctions, I am adding a little bit more information than what my previous post had available as far as mushrooms are concerned. Why?
Well. There are medical reasons for using mushrooms, and there medical reasons to not use mushrooms. A lot of those reasons involve bad reactions to and/or with medication being taken for various things -- including but not limited to issues with the heart, liver, kidneys, and brain/mind. The brain/mind can be calmed by mushrooms, but it can also be turned in the exact opposite direction and place a person in a worse state than what they were already in before consuming such.
I am not a medical professional. I do not declare my findings to be definite. I am adding links to anything and everything purported so you can do your own research. If you are currently taking medications for anything that may react negatively for consumables, please consult your medical professional for their opinion BEFORE consuming something you probably shouldn't touch.
Now that that is out of the way? Yes -- I do have a few issues that could be affected by something as simple as Everyday Dose mild roast Coffee+, but I did my research and I consulted a medical professional before making my final decision to make my purchase and add Everyday Dose to my daily coffee routine. Why Did You Choose Everyday Dose Instead of Four Sigmatic?
Just because I wanted to have fewer ingredients doesn't mean I have to select the one that has the fewest ingredients. Five (5) was actually a decent number, considering the items involved. Yes, Four Sigmatic does have coffee and it does have Lion's Mane mushrooms - but what is yacon, and do I like it? Does yacon powder alter the flavor, or is it just an added bonus?
NOTE TO SELF: Find a reputable place that sells yacon so I can see if I actually like it. (Dear Rick Bayless - have you ever encountered yacon in your travels? Apparently it grows in South America....)
Lion's Mane is known to help with cognitive function (memory and focus) as well as gastrointestinal health, mood (stress tolerance comes to mind), and the body's immune system.
Throw in Everyday Dose's addition of Chaga (which I had to research before making my final decision), and there's a strong possibility of a marriage with Lion's Mane for immune system boosting properties right now when everyone is starting to get the winter sneezes.
I will not go into any of the other benefits that Chaga and Lion's Mane might have, as none of these things are fully backed by scientific study.
To be honest, I don't think science is ready to see how nature can help humanity -- chemical compounds are an easy sell, after all, and not everyone is interested in natural remedies. (Did they ever finish dissecting garlic and the properties therein? No? That's what I thought.)
The other two items in Everyday Dose also have beneficial properties: L-Theanine also helps with cognitive function and overall mood, pairing nicely with Lion's Mane (we've got a three-way going on, here) PLUS it has been noted to be boosted in effectiveness when caffeine is in the mix (score!).
Collagen peptides? Yeah. Added bonus -- it is believed to be helpful with dry/aging skin.
So my decision on Everyday Dose instead of Four Sigmatic had nothing to do with finding a coffee with a decent boost from mushrooms but still abiding by the least number of ingredients possible - hardly.
Did it have anything to do with all of the bells and whistles tossed in on the side with Everyday Dose? No, it didn't - and I even told them such; I wanted something I could add to my daily coffee routine that had decent health benefits and still tasted good while having a good price point from my first cup to my last.
Does it have the caffeine I need to run through my day? HAHAHAHA no. Four Sigmatic has that, hands down, at a purported ~150mg per 4 tablespoons to 12 ounces of water -- Everyday Dose, at just ~45mg per tablespoon serving, is nowhere near what I need... but it is exactly what I require when adding it to a second run of coffee from a reusable pod in my single serve coffee maker. I usually don't take two cups of coffee daily, but I can cut back on my canned caffeinated drinks and have less sugar and/or fake sugar in my daily routine.
(Remember this? I'm trying to change my routines for the new year and live a little bit healthier.)
Does the price point truly add up to something I can manage and be happy with? Maybe. Just think: Thirty (30) servings of Everyday Dose at ~45mg of caffeine per tablespoon... at 36$US per month (on subscription) puts me at roughly 432$US annually @ $1.20 per serving. Is it worth it?
Until I can see how well my body does with it in the next two months, I really cannot say -- it takes time for anything to get fully integrated into one's body, just like with various medications. Furthermore, once it is fully integrated into one's system, you can actually back off on your intake and still have such in your system. Think smarter, folks. Think smarter.
After a two month period has passed, thinking still on a 36$US monthly price point, going every other month (one [1] tablespoon per cup every other morning, or half a tablespoon per cup each morning), the yearly cost would end up being 216$US at just 0.60 per cup at a half tablespoon daily.
A rational mind gives rational equivalents with rational exponents. (Yes, call me crazy.)
If I were to decide I wanted to switch over to Four Sigmatic (for whatever reason) fifty-two (52) servings (because this is where math comes into play, folks) at ~37mg of caffeine per tablespoon? Obviously that is now more caffeine per serving, as cutting Everyday Dose to a half tablespoon daily would make it roughly ~26mg of caffeine over Four Sigmatic's base 37. (Remember, 150mg per 4 tablespoons = ~37mg per tablespoon. 13 servings by 4 tablespoons per serving in each bag becomes 52 tablespoons per bag.)
Four Sigmatic's current price point on their "focus" medium roast coffee blend with just three (3) ingredients is 12$US per bag WITH subscription. Being the person I am, I would grab the four (4) bag bundle. With four (4) bags at 48$ total, those bags would last me 208 days at one (1) tablespoon daily.
That would give the price point of 0.23 per cup daily.
...
Okay, sure, if you want to do half tablespoons on both sides, sure -- then ~18mg (omg omg omg nooooooo) is what I'd be looking at...
...but then it'd last me 416 days. At that rate, I'd be running (on a really low amount of caffeine added to my morning routine) at the price point of just ~0.12 per cup daily. And I would have a full supply of coffee supplement for just under 14 months.
BUT the L-theanine in Everyday Dose is something that I know actually does work for me -- I can drink ZOA 16oz drinks at 200mg of caffeine and have a clear mind and keep going like I have the whole world to conquer. That, too, has L-theanine, alongside a great many other things. The normal price point there is 1$US and up, it just depends on where you are and from which supplier you get it.
Prime Energy is another one that has L-theanine, at 16oz it still packs that 200mg of caffeine. On top of that, the B6 and B12 components are at the 150% per serving, so.... Per serving, you're looking at a price point of (you guessed it) 1$US and up.
Bucked Up is yet another, as is G Fuel. Both sport 300mg of caffeine per serving, and - like all the others - can cost 1$US and up per can.
In the end, we all have to use our best judgements.
I chose Everyday Dose.
Four Sigmatic didn't pop up on my feed until a few days after I made my final decision, and Everyday Dose won -- hands down -- over Ryze, Lucid, MUD/WTR, Atlas+, and Neubrain. Other companies beyond what I have listed here have been popping up more recently, and I'm not changing my mind any time soon.
The only way someone can twist my arm is if they just give it to me for free. ^^; (And that's pushing it.)
Happy choice making!

PS: I didn't place ANY links on this entry that will send you to a page that I might get paid for any purchases you decide to make. If you would like to buy me a cup of coffee (give a donation), here's a link you can do so at your leisure:
Also? You can check out my Benable page, which does happen to have various links to other pages that may or may not tip me if you decide to make a purchase. Some links actually don't give me anything -- that's how much I actually like those products.
Just saying.
