Another app to help you get fit - but is it worth it?
I found Megabites by accident, like so many other things, on Facebook Ads. I'm always willing to give new things a try, you know?
Released in August 2025, this app is available for both Android and iOS (plus they have a Discord channel), and you have the option to use the free version - or get a few extras with a subscription plan (more about that later).
I mentioned back in November 2025 that I wanted to start walking more, et cetera, in 2026. It started off well enough. It stopped.
BitePal was deleted.
I'm ignoring Noom - Noom Vibe is hit or miss.
Evidation does it's own thing.
Patter exists but I forget about it.
WeWard and I had words last month and we're giving each other space.
Walking Planet has hiccups so I dismissed it.
I have tried to remember Cashwalk exists, but I don't keep up with it enough to say we're in the "friendsies" zone just yet.
The possibility of an online walking journal is enticing, but I don't know how long it will last - because of that, one has not been created.
In walked Megabites.
I keep an open mind. It's supposed to be a fun way to keep up with your steps and log your meals/calories and your weight while raising a little digital critter based on your progress and consistency.
It's basically Tamagotchi × Health for your phone, and if you don't keep up with it? The longer you forget to log in and walk and note your meals, the more your creature downgrades — and if you leave it too long, those downgrades allow it to actually "die". If that happens, you have to start over!
Compatible with Apple Health, Google Health Connect, Samsung Health, and Fitbit, your daily steps are automatically calculated. If you're logging meals, you can scan barcodes as well as search for the items in question. You have to manually insert your weight, but I think that's a given.
You start off with 100 shards. Use those shards to "purchase" a Megabite when you start your journey.
Each day you log on you get daily rewards (FREE: Defib and Megalyte. PAID ACCOUNTS: Mega Meal, Protein Bar, and Vitamins) and, depending on what you do through your day with steps and such, you get shards.
Did I mention they've recently added a battle arena? Yeah. They're constantly trying to find new ways to keep you engaged with your health using this app, and frankly? I'm impressed.
Oh, right - subscriptions. You have the option of subscribing monthly (9.99$US) or annually (59.99$US), and such allows you extras like documentation of your meals by taking a picture of the food itself, a shard boost, the extra dailies, and so on.
If I had the money, I would definitely be an annual subscriber.
That said? If you are interested in trying it out for yourself, be sure to look me up - username: mathietremas
Even though they're labeled as having 1,000+ downloads, I am 100% enjoying this as a possibility of helping me keep me on track for a healthier 2026.
Stay sane!
