Exercising... oh, the humanity!
I found the photo by Peter Blanchard to be a very stark reminder that ...we all don't go out and walk anymore. It used to be a common occurrence, people would walk around in malls or walk down the street to and/or from a friend's house. Sometimes bikes were the preferred method. Some would travel alone, others would travel in packs, but so many of us would be outside doing something -- even if it wasn't directly related to the streets themselves.
Preaching to the choir, I've become a very complacent individual who doesn't go outside to enjoy fresh air and sunlight. If I were to go out in the day I might even hiss in retaliation, pretending to screech (though myself in defiance rather than pain) much the same as Maurice had in Little Monsters ("The sun, the sun! Let me go, lemme go, lemme go lemmego aaaahhhh!").
Maurice had a reason, whereas I do not.
There are quite a few notable apps to help spur on the need to walk, rewarding us for every step we take... but, then again, some of them require you to either have your smartphone on your person the entire time OR they only register your steps with extremely high priced smart watches.
Both methods take all of the fun out of everything - if any of it would be considered fun at all.
That said? In the next few days I will be testing out a few apps, as well as a smart watch that has mixed reviews, and let you know how they pan out. (I'm well aware that some of us cannot always exercise due to personal infirmities, and I will be taking that into consideration as well - no worries.)
If you're interested in watching Little Monsters? As of this particular day, you can stream it for free on Pluto TV. (I do believe I will be taking a walk down memory lane and watch it again myself.)
