Inktober 2026: October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

Birds are not my forte.

I chose birds because I know I stray from them the same way so many detest drawing hands and place characters with their hands in their pockets or under trays and things like that.  They have structure that cannot easily be softened or altered to appear natural if you screw up on a line because your dog bumps your elbow....

Birds are math, and I'm slightly allergic to maths of the higher varietal.  Colors and textures and inks and bringing things to life, however -- THAT I can do, and I do it rather well.

  • October 1st:  Eastern Cardinal. (Scarlet Red, Charcoal Grey, Soft Amber.)
  • October 2nd:  Barn Owl. (Cream, Dark Sepia, Pale Gold)
  • October 3rd:  Great Blue Heron. (Slate Blue, Indigo, Burnt Orange)
Each of these (and all others for my Inktober 2026 prompts) are considered ACEO, which stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals: miniature collectible artworks that measure exactly 2.5 by 3.5 inches (64 by 89 mm)—the same size as a standard baseball or trading card.

I don't want to hold anything back, but trying to post one image EVERY day gets to be a bit blah after a while, doesn't it?  I'll make a gallery page specifically for updating with the newly created images and post a link for easy access later.

All of the cards done in the month of October will be raw, traditional one-of-a-kind originals. I am holding off on active sales for the first week or two while I focus on the art, but until then?  If you have questions, feel free to leave a comment and/or send an email. (I know a few of you have already asked about prints.  I'm weighing my options.)

-- Mathie Tremas.

P.S. Even though the master-list holds 31 daily prompts, that doesn't mean I will not go back and revisit a few of them.

Do I have a planned "final number" for the month?  No, and I like not knowing:

It even keeps me in suspense!
